Book Review: MEANT TO BE MINE by Hannah Orenstein

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Meant to be Mine is out today, June 7/22! I had the pleasure of reading an advanced reader’s copy before I interviewed Hannah on my podcast, and there’s a lot to love about this sweet romcom!

The story takes place mostly in NYC. It opens on the day that Edie is fated to meet the love of her life—just like all the people in her family have successfully done, according to her grandmother’s predictions. She gave up a wonderful relationship with someone she truly loved because she knew she was destined to meet someone else on a certain day—so why bother, right?

Edie does, in fact, meet Theo, and he’s a handsome lead singer of an up-and-coming rock band. There’s definitely chemistry there, and I really enjoyed Theo’s character! Through some pretty shocking events, and a lot of wondering about life and love and destiny, Edie does consider the possibility that her grandmother’s predictions might not be true (even though she’s believed in them for years). And if that’s the case… then what?

I loved the ensemble of characters in this book. There was really something to love about everyone. Themes of family, love, friendship, and fate are intertwined, and I really enjoyed getting to know everyone through Edie’s eyes. Gloria, her grandmother, is a hoot!

And of course, I cried in a few parts! There’s such a deep connection between Edie and the people she holds dear, and I really felt like all these characters were real people. So when you care about the characters, you hurt when they’re hurting. I think Hannah did an amazing job at pulling the reader in and making us care about the characters!

Overall, this is a fabulous romcom that I very much enjoyed. It’s funny, it’s sweet, and it made me smile and gave me all the feels on several occasions. It really made me think about fate, which I do believe in, and what it all means when something doesn’t go the way you think it will. And I thought the ending was excellent!

From the back cover:

What if you knew exactly when you’d meet the love of your life? Edie Meyer knows. When her Grandma Gloria was a young woman, she had a vision of the exact day she would meet her soul mate—and then Grandpa Ray showed up.

Since then, Gloria has accurately predicted the day every single member of the family has met their match. Edie’s day arrives on June 24, 2022, when she’s twenty-nine years old. She has been waiting for it half her life. That morning, she boards an airplane to her twin sister’s surprise engagement, and when a handsome musician sits beside her, she knows it’s meant to be.

But fate comes with more complications than Edie expected and she can’t fight the nagging suspicion that her perfect guy doesn’t have perfect timing. After a tragedy and a shocking revelation rock Edie’s carefully constructed world, she’s forced to consider whether love chooses us, as simple as destiny, or if we choose it ourselves.
